In a tete-tete with Ravishing Wedding, glamorous entrepreneur Mallika Jain gets candid about life, love and profession

“Dreams can certainly come true and not just that; they can come to your doorstep too”, says the multi-talented lady, Mallika Jain, who is the promoter of ‘Fashion Capsule’ and ‘Jainsons Gallery’. Woman of positive thoughts, once she sets her mind on something, she pursues it with complete focus and panache. Talking about Fashion Capsule, Mallika says, “Fashion Capsule is a fashion and lifestyle shopping extravaganza, which brings together dozens of new and creative designer brands under one roof.” The first Fashion Capsule event was held in October 2013 and since then, she has organised over half a dozen successful editions of the extravaganza that were attended and appreciated by the crème de la crème of Delhi/NCR. In a much grander avatar, the next edition of Fashion Capsule – Grandé 2015 is scheduled to be held on January 15th, 2015 at The Grand, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.

The birth of Jainsons Gallery & Fashion Capsule

Mallika truly believes in the words of Henry David Thoreau, who said – “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” Coming from a family of successful business entrepreneurs, Mallika dreamt of creating new and effective business opportunities since her childhood. Additionally, owing to her keen interest and exposure to the world of fashion, art and lifestyle, it was only natural for her to start ventures where she could empower and facilitate other entrepreneurs and artists alike. It was this spirit that led to the launch of Jainsons Gallery and rightfully followed by inception of Fashion Capsule.

Jainsons Gallery, an elegantly designed retail space of 1600 sqft is located right in the heart of the posh Greater Kailash Part 1, N Block Market, New Delhi. The gallery, that hosts a variety of fashion and art exhibitions, retail sales, workshops, etc., is equipped with all modern facilities and fixtures and offers customizable display and retail space to exhibitors.

With an objective of offering nothing but the best to her associates, she puts in her heart and soul in these two ventures. She has personally been involved with the design, décor, marketing and day-to-day operations of these ventures. Mallika’s associates swear by her professionalism and her event management, marketing and promotional skills. Confident with the success of Fashion Capsule in New Delhi, she plans to take the brand to other cities soon and thereafter even to the international waters.

Family and Education

Born and bought up in New York City, USA, Mallika hails from a very reputed Marwari family of Madhya Pradesh. Her schooling was at Mussoorie International School, an followed by Materdei Convent, New Delhi. She pursued Bachelor in Commerce from Jesus and Mary College, New Delhi. After her marriage into a respected Jain family of New Delhi, Mallika went on to study for her diploma in Fashion Retail Management from NIFT and also got a diploma in merchandising due to her keen in interest in the lifestyle and fashion domains. She is mother of two adorable sons, aged 16 and 13.

Beginning of her professional journey

Mallika started her professional journey by managing the ladies division of Jainsons Tycoon (the parent company) owned by her in-laws. She deftly managed a team of 30 people internally and established vendors to source materials from Rajasthan. With creative marketing, designing and sourcing strategies, Mallika was able to fight competition from the neighbouring stores. Her education in fashion, coupled with her keen interest in fashion trends helped her achieve an increase in sales by more than 50% in the very first year. She also went on to organize women-wear exhibitions in embassies and five star hotels in the city.

Having tasted success in the family business, Mallika decided to turn professional and explore & learn about international luxury brands and how they function in our country. She took up the position of Boutique Director of an international luxury brand at DLF Emporio Mall, New Delhi from year 2000- 2014.

Community service and personal interests

A firm believer of the karma theory, Mallika believes in doing her own bit for the society. She has been closely associated with Ankur, an NGO working towards the welfare of underprivileged children. She loves to visit their center and spend time with the children. Interacting with kids there and helping them learn and grow with dignity gives her immense joy. Despite her hectic schedule, Mallika likes to catch up with her inner self by working out, reading and listening to music. She is an avid follower of trends on branding, fashion and marketing research. Well known in the social circles in north India, her friends constantly reach out to her for advice related to entrepreneurship and lifestyle marketing.

Views on women empowerment

Mallika is a socially aware and active persona, who strongly believes that women empowerment is the ability of women to exercise full control over their actions, be it material assets, intellectual resources or their ideologies. Empowerment of women could only be achieved if their economic and social status is improved. This could be made possible only by making them realize that they have the potential to be strong human beings. They should be allowed to study and work in the area of their choice. She swears by the words of Swami Vivekananda who had said “That nation which doesn’t respect women will never become great now and nor will ever in future.” Mallika believes that the struggle for gender justice will be slow, strenuous and protracted, as the change cannot be brought about easily. It has to be fought at emotional, cognitive and action levels. She is giving her best in bringing about that change at some level at least.
